Internet Awesomeness: Zombie Edition

Awesome internet stuff, now with zombies!

* VHS 2 - A Ride in the Park

I couldn't find a complete version of this short, but it's awesome. It features a cyclist with a helmet camera being attacked by a zombie and turns into a zombie himself. The short has very little dialog, but truly captures what a zombie outbreak would look like. I completely recommend watching the entire thing.

* A Zombie Love Song

This is a cute song about a guy who loves his zombie girlfriend. I like the song even though the subject matter is pretty awful. He goes through the things he loves about her that include not having a personality anymore, not having to do the things she liked to do since she doesn't like anything anymore, and not having to spend time with her friends or family. He must not have liked his girlfriend very much in the first place. The ending is fitting and the song is upbeat and catchy.

* The Dangers of Having a Chainsaw for a Hand

Funny or Die just came out with this video about how Ash's daily life must go with a shainsaw for a hand. Of course he would refuse to use his normal hand for everything and make everyone else's life miserable. Barbara Crampton shows up with a demon possessed boyfriend at the end. Very fun and I can't wait for more Ash next season of Ash vs. Evil Dead!

Internet Awesomeness: Halloween Edition

Wonderful Halloween themed videos from the internet!

1) Actual Cannibal Shia LaBeouf by Rob Cantor

I've posted about this song before, but it's never been seen like this. The song is performed by Rob Cantor backed by a band, a full orchestra, a choir, and even a troupe of dancers. It has a new ending and a surprise twist after the song is over. The song as always is hilarious, but even more so with all the added performers and gravitas.

2) Modern Monster Mash by Key of Awesome

Everyone knows the Monster Mash, but this parody song introduces modern monsters such as Leatherface, Jigsaw, Hannibal Lecter, and Michael Myers. Poor Frankenstein just isn't prepared for the amount of carnage they provide. It's hilarious and catchy.

3) IKEA Singapore Commercial - The Shining

This fun IKEA commercial captures the creepy atmosphere of Stanley Kubrik's The Shining perfectly.

4) GEICO Commercial - Horror film

Ah, the hapless victims of horror films and their wonderful decision making skills. I especially like the killer's eyeroll and "Let's hide behind the chainsaws!"

Internet Awesomeness : Zombie Edition 2

Awesome zombie stuff! Anything goes: videos, games, anything!

* They Will Eat You!

They Will Eat You! is a creepy internet zombie game. When chemical waste seeps into the ground of the local cemetery, the dead rise! The simple object is to run from the zombies. You have no weapons and you are dead after 3 bites (which is generous). The music that's used during gameplay is so creepy and enhances the atmosphere. Check out the Zombie Education section which details which parts of the human body zombies find most tasty, zombie evasion methods and their effectiveness, a pie graph on the intention of an approaching zombie, and graph detailing the population growth (or lack thereof) of both zombies and humans during a zombie apocalypse. Scroll to the right to see all the diagrams and graphs. Play it here!

* Zombie Parkour

If you aren't aware, parkour is a training method influenced by military obstacle training. The aim is to overcome obstacles as efficiently as possible using only their own bodies and their surroundings to propel them. The film shows people using parkour to avoid zombies. These zombies are super fast and coordinated! They jump without stumbling, climb things, etc. If these parkour guys can't avoid them, there's really no hope for the rest of us. There isn't really a plot. It's a glimpse into this world without dialog. I would like to see a full length film with a more set story, but this is a great start.

* Breaking Dead

Some awesome person cut together scenes of Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead to make an awesome show! It sounds like Jesse accidentally makes some sort of zombie meth and infects the world! It's beautifully and almost seamlessly cut to look like one show that I would totally watch! The dialog works incredibly well with the visuals. I love Walter's speech about people surviving.

* The Dead 2: India trailer

I just heard about there being a sequel to The Dead and a trailer was just posted today! It looks really good. A zombie plague is bad news for a country as densely populated as India. It seems to have a higher budget than its predecessor because it looks a little more polished. I hope the story is as good.

Internet Awesomeness: Zombie Edition

Various internet findings involving zombies!

1) Victorian Undead

This short film is fairly basic with no dialog at all, but the costuming and zombie makeup are pretty awesome. I could definitely see this as a scene from a feature film and I would love to see it expanded. I like period zombie films and books because they don't have the technology we have today and it makes it even harder to beat them or escape them.

2) Zombies Run! 2 app

This is a fitness app to make working out a little more fun. Instead of just running or walking or bike riding, you can do it with a cool zombie story. There are over 60 missions. As you go, you pick up various items needed, save people from zombies, run from zombies, and so much more! You can hear the zombie horde as it tries to catch you and the reporter tells you when you are clear. I hate running, but adding this cool feature would definitely motivate me to run more. The app is 50% right now for $3.99 and they also have an app to train for a 5k. Available for both Google and iOS.

3) Undead Teds

Undead Teds are adorable zombie teddy bears! They are handmade and adorably macabre. The creators of these take existing dolls and add blood, gore, and bones to them. There are a huge variety of them, but unfortunately, they're all sold out! What zombie fan wouldn't want one of these creepy cute dolls to grace their homes? Besides their website, you can follow them on their Tumblr or Facebook. Below are some of my favorites.

Internet Awesomeness 9

Awesome videos!!

1) Season 6 Finale of The Guild

This is the best ending to this show. I'm not sure if it's truly the end, but everyone is getting the ending they deserve and Codex doesn't even need her video journal anymore. I cried a little at the end and I felt totally satisfied about the series. If you haven't seen the series at all, it's all on Netflix and Youtube. It's about a guild in a World of Warcraft-like game, how they are all socially maladjusted, and how they meet in real life.

2) Bab Seed

I love the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and its super addicting songs written by Daniel Ingram. This one is like creature that lays eggs in my brain and gets stuck in my head for days at a time. It's upbeat, catchy, and fun. I suggest if you like the song to check out the surprisingly awesome show about 6 friends in Ponyville learning about friendship.

3) Kirby Krackle - One More Episode

Kirby Krackle, my favorite nerd band, has come out with a new single that I totally relate to. It's about when your powering through a series and you just want to watch one more episode before stopping for whatever reason. I have powered through so many series this way, it's not even funny. I love that the video is just in the script mimicking famous and popular television shows and it's fun to guess what they all are.

4) Overly Attached Computer commerical

Laina Walker of Overly Attached Girlfriend fame is featured as a computer for Samsung. I love her crazy eyes and how she can just  change her emotions at the drop of a hat. Her various threats to delete your stuff or send dirty messages to your dad are hilarious. I enjoy her humor and I'm glad she's taking advantage of her internet fame.

Internet Awesomeness: Zombie Edition 4

More zombies from the internets! They are infecting everything!!!!!

1) Play Dead

This Kickstarter funded short film is about dogs that are immune to zombie virus versus zombies as they roam in Miami. I like the little profiles at the beginning of the short film that tells each dogs name, their likes, their interest, and their temperament. After their owner's die, there are blissful moments of fun for them while humans are dying everywhere. I find it hilarious that one of the dogs is always pulling along their zombie owner. This film is extremely well done from the gore to the acting to the awesome dogs. It goes to a dark place fast, but still manages to keep the humor. The human's actions are understandable, but it's still sad. The post-zombie apocalyptic world is hard for a dog.

2) Zombie Call Center

This film is super short, but packs in good humor, satire, and zombie fun. I really really wanted her annoying co-worker to be eaten by a zombie. I just hate people that sit back and let everyone else do the work. In less than a minute, this guy annoyed the crap out of me and I really wanted Amy to succeed. The nonchalance that these people treat zombies with in this world makes me want to know more about how zombies effect their society and how many zombies there are. If satellite is a huge concern, then maybe it's not so bad.

3) Zombie Burger

There is a super awesome restaurant in Des Moines, Iowa that is zombie themed. This may seem kind of gross, what with zombies being rotting and all, but I find it cute and charming. Plus it features food with awesome names like the 28 Days Later Burger, The Boomstick burger, and salads called Soylent Greens. It is a little more expensive than just a burger place, but it's highly rated on Yelp by customers and it seems to be worth it. If only there were something like that here in California. I found out about it reading this months issues of Fangoria magazine where this restaurant was featured.

More zombies soon!

Internet Awesomeness: Zombie Edition

Awesome videos and such from the internets with ZOMBIES!

1) Walking Dead Mad Men

What happens when you mix 2 very popular AMC shows about advertising and zombies? This amazing video! Zombie advertising agents from the 60's and overdramatic zombie apocalypse survivors are hilarious together. I've never seen Mad Men, but the jokes about Walking Dead are spot on.

2) Zombie Experiment NYC

A couple months ago, Dish pulled AMC and its associated channels from their service and this little commercial is part of the campaign to get zombie back on TV. People were made-up to look like zombies and set loose on the streets of New York. This video records the unsuspecting public's reactions. It's a very unique way to advertise for another company vs. TV channel conflict.

3) Adventure Time Zombies

Adventure Time is an amazingly imaginative and twisted show that mixes science fiction and fantasy in delightful ways. Please, watch this show if you haven't yet. Anyway: this first video from the episode Slumber Party Panic, Princess Bubblegum tries to resurrect dead Candy People, but ends up turning them into sugar craving, candy eating zombies.

In a later episode, Princess Bubblegum is experimenting with a remnant of dead zombie flesh when Cinnamon Bun eats it and becomes a zombie. We get to see a lot of the beloved characters become mindless zombies and poor Finn needs to figure out what to do on his own without understanding the science to make the antidote.

These two episodes are two of my favorites because they bring zombies to a great cartoon show while retaining their horror. I hope for more zombie episodes in the future!

More zombies to come!

Internet Awesomeness: Amanda Palmer Edition

I've been a huge fan of Amanda Palmer's quite a few years now in different musical configurations: as a solo performer, half of The Dresden Dolls, part of 8in8, and half of Evelyn and Evelyn. Her music is undeniably unique with her percussive piano playing and emotional way of singing. She has been the center of many a controversy, but is also recognized for her achievements. Very recently, she set up a Kickstarter to fund her new album, Theatre is Evil, recorded with The Grand Theft Orchestra that has garnered over 20,000 backers and over a million pledged dollars. It is officially the most funded music project on Kickstarter and I'm happy to be a part of it.

Here are some of the tracks from her new album that she has already leaked:

Do It with a Rockstar - It's a little more rock than she usually plays and clearly has some Bowie influences (which I love!). I like that when you look a little harder at the lyrics, it's about loneliness.

Trout Heart Replica - This is an older song that she has played live a lot over the past couples years. It's given new life with strings to fill out the sound and make the lyrics that much more poignant. The differences in texture and the relationship between the strings and piano throughout the song amazes me and makes the song even better than I remember it. (You can listen to the studio version here as it is not up on youtube yet.)

Want It Back - This is the one I will inevitably listen to over and over and over and sing it all day. It's super catchy and I already love it.  (You can listen to the studio version here as it is not up on youtube yet.)

The album will be out this September, so keep an eye out for it! It will be made of awesome!!!

Internet Awesomeness

More awesomeness from the internets!!!!!

1) Actual Cannibal Shia LaBeouf

This song and video are so hilarious. I'm personally not a fan of Shia or his movies, but this song makes him a million times more awesome to me. It's a short narrative about Shia attacking and eating people. You are the protagonist as you try to escape him but have to do things like gnaw your leg off because it got stuck in a bear trap. I just about die laughing every time I hear the song, which you can download here.

2) Dr. Who Meets Metal

Listen to the Dr. Who theme played in a metal style by a guy who obviously loves playing music.

3) Reverse Parthenogenesis

This is a cute, morbid short film starring 2 Buffy alums, Amber Benson and Adam Busch, about the antichrist, evil, and relationships. I love seeing these two act again and the film is darkly funny and clever.

4) Juliet (Olde English Remix) by Emilie Autumn

I'm obviously on an Emilie Autumn kick right now. I love her dynamic voice and virtuosic violin playing. This song is about Juliet (of Romeo and) and this remix take out all of the electronic music in the original. It's stripped down and totally believable to the era and thoughts of Juliet. Her voice and the violin are both heard better and capture the feeling of the song better in this version. The mood is much more peaceful and contemplative. You can hear the original version here.

Do you guys have any awesome videos or other internet findings you would like to share?

Internet Awesomeness

More awesome internet videos!

1) Fan made Evelyn Evelyn video

I love the song Have You Seen My Sister Evelyn and this video makes me love it even more. It's unique, creative, and simply awesome.

2) GLaDOS writes to Princess Celestia

My boyfriend is a brony and he got me into watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It's actually a very good show with detailed, realistic characters. If you haven't watched it, I highly recommend it. Just ignore all of your preconceptions about it first. Anways, GLaDOS from the Portal games writes to Princess Celestia in this video with hilarious results.

3) Ukulele Anthem by Amanda Palmer

I heard this song at Amanda Palmer's last concert in LA around Halloween and I absolutely loved it. The point of it is that ukuleles are super cheap and easy to play, so go out and make art in your own way! I have been playing the uke for a little over a year and it's really fun to play cover songs with my friends.

4) Dirty Signs with Kristin

Kristin's videos are hilarious because she teaches how to say dirty things in sign language. The one I've chosen isn't particularly dirty, but I like it anyway. It shows how to say "You make baby Jesus cry." If you're interested, there are lots of other phrases in the sidebar on youtube and each and every one is funny, yet informative.

Until next time!
