The Zombeatles is a parody band that comes from Wisconsin that remade many songs from The Beatles with a zombie's perspective while dressing up as zombified versions of the band complete with new names: Jaw Nlennon, Pall Ickartney, Gorge Harryson, Dingo Scarr, Killy Essen, and Eat Breast. Besides the tracks below, the song on their album Meat the Zombeatles are Hey Food, Dead Prudence, Ate Brains a Week, Halp!, She Dead, and I'm Eating Through You.
* A Hard Day's Night of the Living Dead
This video is super fun. Since they're all zombies, the band doesn't sing everything prefectly and devolve a lot into groans and cries for brains. The scenes of the zombies doing household chores is pretty hilarious. The end of the song kind of falls apart because they're zombies and found other things to focus on, like brains.
* A Want to Eat Your Hand
This one has a bit more actual singing in it, which is nice. The hilarity is in the lyrics like "When I much you, I don't feel so empty inside." It's a cute, silly parody of I Want to Hold Your Hand that has just enough zombie growls for flavor.
* All You Need is Brains Mockumentary
This mockumentary chronicles the rise of the Fab Gore in an alternate history where the zombie apocalypse has happened. It is like a Behind the Music type feature where they exist alongside a bunch of other zombie groups like The ZomMonkees, The Rolling Kidney Stones, Elvis Grisly, Boo Marley, Dead Zeppelin, and The Beach Boils. I don't think this is available online, but you can buy it on DVD on their website.

Zombie Tunes!
Songs to nom brains to!
* Zombie Dance by The Cramps
The lyrics paint a lovely picture of a zombie prom, how zombies would act, and how they would still have a good time. The style is a nice mix of punk and surf rock that is a little cheerful and a little edgy.
* We're Coming to Kill Ya by Zachariah and the Lobos Riders
This song combines elements that seem they wouldn't go together at all: rap and country line dancing. The verses and title recitations are all in a rap/hip hop style while the chorus is a relaxed country complete with fiddle accompaniment and line dancing. The lyrics are quite clever with word play, visceral images, and a sense of humor. The verse welcomes others to become zombies and join the party while the rest are generally about eating people.
* Conversation 16 by The National
This isn't immediately apparent as a zombie song, but it gets there. I interpret it as the singer being afraid of getting steeped in the routine of everyday life and turning into a zombie. All his hopes, dreams, and passion might just sap away eventually until he's an undead husk of what he once was. It's more metaphorical, but effective nonetheless.

* Vicarious by Tool
This song has a lot of horror imagery with mentions of supernatural creatures like vampires and zombies. The post-apocalyptic imagery is definitely zombie tinged with living while the world dies and devouring to survive. Be prepared for a bleak view of the world with Tool's signature meter changing melodies that keep the song feeling just a little off kilter.
* Zombies, March! by GWAR
This song is from the point of view of the Zombie king who controls the zombies and uses them as slaves and an army. He also bemoans his own blight of unending hunger and not so intelligent soldiers. The video goes between a Night of the Living Dead type black and white film with a modern twist and GWAR singing in their over the top costumes. The zombie parts have some fun twists like a woman screaming at one zombie, waiting to be eaten, and then a whole crowd come and steal his meal. The zombies eventually come into the set and eat all of the rude producers and agents in. The song and video have a great sense of humor.
* She Was a Teenage Zombie by Murderdolls
It's just another story of boy meets undead girl and falls in love with her. I'm not a huge fan of the singing, but the lyrics, story, and beat are fun. The scene they set is delightfully funny and surreal with this guy taking her on a date like she's a normal girl. It's subversive and uses fun puns like drop dead gorgeous.

Zombie Tunes Part 1
Tunes to nom brains to!
* Zombies by Lacuna Coil
This song is a little different than the usual zombie song. Zombies are the downtrodden and ignored that can unite to rise up as one. It's nice to see a song that personifies zombies. Lacuna Coil sets itself apart from other metal bands with the contrast between Cristina Scabbia's beautiful high voice and Andrea Ferro's much rougher and deeper voice that is sometimes almost a gutteral scream.
* Dead and Bloated by Stone Temple Pilots
This is another song from the point of view of a disgusting, rotted zombie. The melody has an almost country lilt that highlights the humor of the ironic lyrics. It seems to be about some kind of betrayal that other people are dismiss as being part of life. This one's a fun listen even though the subject is morbid.
* Carrion Flowers by Chelsea Wolf
Carrion flowers refers to those bizarre flowers that smell like corpses, but this song also uses it to refer to zombies. They are definitely creatures of habit, mindlessly eating and attacking, and grow from repeated crimes as the dead rise from killings or from the crimes of society that caused it. Slow and relentless, they are after you. The unique style features her ethereal soprano vocals over electronic music that evoke heavy metal. I found Chelsea Wolfe looking for zombie songs, but I'll definitely check out some of her other songs.

More zombie tunes for your undead music needs.
1) Zombie Song by The PDX Broadsides
This zombie song is cute and cheerful, letting people know to kill them if they become a zombie. Most people would rather be dead than nom on their friends and family, so I can relate. The group sings well in harmony and somehow trained a zombie to accompany them on guitar.
2) Return of the Loving Dead by the Nekromantix
The Nekromantix take a different route and describe the benefits of having an undead lover. Living ones are so willful and hurtful, but the dead will comply with your needs and never hurt you. I always like rockabilly, especially with horror subjects. I love the contrast of the dark subject matter and cheerful, upbeat melody.
3) Radioactive by Imagine Dragons
This song isn't explicitly about zombies, but a lot of phrases and concepts in the lyrics point to it: breathing in chemicals, new age, revolution. Zombies would overthrow the world order and put man at the bottom of the foodchain again. Chemicals and radioactivity are a typical start of a zombie apocalypse as seen in the very first zombie film, Night of the Living Dead. I've visualized these whenever I hear this song and I hope others do too. Plus the video is adorable with battling muppets.

More zombie songs!
1) No Work Today by Mae Martin
This is the happiest sounding song about the zombie apocalypse. Mae saw this coming and uses her zombie movie knowledge to survive. Some good things come out of it like no work and not having to deal with your annoying roommate who then gets eaten by zombies (probably). Maybe you shouldn't have left passive aggressive notes or put your crap on the shared space of the apartment, Janine! Anyway, this cute, mellow song almost makes the zombie apocalypse seem pleasant with some helpful tips.
2) Stop, I'm Already Dead by Deadboy and the Elephantmen
This is the super catchy theme song for iZombie. I actually prefer this shortened version over the full song. I think it captures the great parts of the song without being so repetitive. The driving, rhythmic guitar and drums makes it something I want to dance to and the lyrics are perfect. The visuals pay homage to the comic that shares the title and not much else with the show plus it captures the whole concept in a fun, colorful, stylized video.
3) I'm Killing Zombies by Brysi
I'm Killing Zombies is a straightforward song about killing zombies. I can understand the change of opinion. When they aren't beating down your door trying to kill you, zombies are pretty interesting and cool even. I would kill them in a heartbeat if they attacked me too no matter how interesting the media around them is. It's a cute song with fun references.

1) The Spin Wires - Reckless
This super upbeat song hides the bleakness of the subject matter. I could totally dance to this song about a hopeless fight against the undead. The narrator will obviously fight against the horde as long as he can, but he's got no friends and no reason to live. This is the perfect song to play Kill All Zombies (for PS4) and a perfect theme song.
2) Pushing Pencils - Of Course Not
I'm a sucker for a cute zombie romance song. This song has it all: a slow romantic beginning, a rockin' middle, and a brain eating ending. Zombies can never resist the allure of brains, even for love. It's a very cute and catchy song with fun contrasting parts. I also love that the video is a mixture of a conventional performance video and a lyric video in one. The graphic words just add to the fun.
3) Levitika - Zombie Barbie
This song hooked me right from the distorted "Merrily Merrily..." right at the beginning. The lead singer's outfits are insane: there's the very first look with the crazy contacts and infected skin, then the glow in the dark sugar skull look, and lastly the perfect pink Barbie in a box look. This instance of zombie is about conformity: adhering to plastic, unrealistic beauty standards and losing yourself as a result. The look is on point. The song is relevant and enjoyable to listen to. The lead singer's vocals are the right balance of lyrical and raw.

Zombie Songs
More tunes about the living dead!
1) Zombie Delight - Buck 65
This song isn't my favorite style, but the lyrics provide invaluable information during a zombie apocalypse. Don't drink contaminated water. Important during an apocalypse situation. Don't reason with zombies. This may be obvious, but so many people are fooled by their own friends and family as zombies as if they would get better if you just talk to them. This is how many people in zombie movies get bitten. The song also has other basic zombie information like transmission and how to recognize them that would be better for those less familiar with zombies. The lyric video is unique and well designed and makes for a fun zombie song.
2) Zombie - The Cranberries
Despite the title, this isn't really a song about zombies. It's about The Troubles in Ireland and specifically regarding the Warrington bomb attacks. The zombies could refer to the IRA members doing the bombings, simply following orders and not thinking about the devastation they are causing to their own people. Just another way that zombies can be used as a metaphor for something more meaningful.
3) Iced Earth - Among the Living Dead
While this is another song whose style is not my favorite, the lyrics are like a poem about the undead. It's descriptive and even a little hopeful until the crushing defeat at the end. The frenetic momentum of the guitars and drums really drives the song and makes it effective. I love the bridge and when the band sings a little more lyrically. It's an epic song and encompasses the enormity of the zombie apocalypse.

This song is sung by zombies trying get to people barricaded away. They try to spread propaganda so people won't kill them and allow them to eat their brains. Ingenious! I can't embed the song, but it can be heard and downloaded for free from David Ritter's website.
2) Shoot the Zombies (By Shooting Them in the Head) by Andrew
The people from the first song should listen to this advice. This song is super upbeat and catchy. Perfect music to motivate you if you're being chased or sniping from afar. The song is available for 99 cents on Andrew's site.
3) Zombie Love by Cold Blue Rebels
This poor guy is in love with a zombie. He loves her from her rotting flesh to her unbeating heart. It starts as a 50's ballad and then kicks it up a notch with an energetic swing beat. The video is adorable with the zombie dancers and zombies drinking formaldehyde. So sweet!

1) The Priscillas - All My Friends Are Zombies
Experience the zombie apocalypse from the other side! You're hanging out with your zombie friends and then BAM! Someone just kills your friends right in front of you! So rude! Anyway, I love everything about this upbeat punk song: the lyrics, the retro look, and especially the star shaped tambourine.
2) The Aquabats - Fashion Zombies
Fashion zombies! My interpretation of the song is people who dress a certain way to be popular and not because they actually want to dress that way. It's kind of like George A. Romero films that critique consumerism, but a specific aspect of it in young people. The video is adorable and cartoony and the song is super catchy.
3) The Extended Zombie Song from How Resident Evil Should Have Ended
Who doesn't want to hear zombies belting out a melancholy ballad about being lonely and craving brains? This song is so funny and well harmonized for flesheating corpses. If you like this silly song, you can download it for free here.

1) Dead is the New Alive by Emilie Autumn
I love this song and it was the first one I ever heard by Emilie Autumn, linked through Facebook by Lia Habel, awesome author of Dearly, Departed and Dearly, Beloved. In the zombie context, this song is about accepting zombism as the new alive and embracing it instead of fighting against it and being miserable. Kind of like joining the winning team in Arkham Horror.
2) Zombie by Natalia Kills
It's nice when a boy loves you for your brains, but it sucks when he wants to nom on them. This isn't the type of music I would usually listen to (because it reminds me of Rihanna little bit), but it's about zombies.
3) The Zombie Song by Stephanie Mabey
This is a super cute song about a zombie in love with a human. It's a sweet song that features super adorable art to illustrate the story. Plus, you can download it straight from the artist for free here.

Zombie Songs 2
Zombie tunes to shuffle around to!!!
1) Walk Like a Zombie by The Horrorpops
The Horrorpops are a punk, rockabilly band from Denmark and this song describes what it's like to be in love with a zombie. It's super cute and catchy and I would love to hear more from this band! The fanmade video using images from my favorite movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas is just perfect.
2) Nobody Likes You When You're Dead by Zombina and the Skeletones
First of all, Zombina and the Skeletones is an awesome band name. They are a British band that frequently uses themes of horror and science fiction in their music, which makes my inner nerd do a dance. This song describes the injustices of being a zombie. People just treat you differently. :( I love the video. The band starts out as Tina and the Monotones, but then turns zombie, turning the audience into zombies as they play.
3) Zombies Everywhere by Karate High School
This California band takes a more pop-rock angle to the zombie song. The song describes the zombie apocalypse and, judging by the lyrics, it could easily lend itself to using zombies as a metaphor for blind consumerism, complacency, etc. I like the brain chant in the middle. :)
4) Zombie Me by No More Kings
Another super catchy zombie song with a nice rock groove with a little bit of rap thrown in the mix, describing the zombie experience in a fun way.

1) Day of the Dead by Voltaire
The Day of the Dead celebration isn't necessarily about zombies, but I think Voltaire's depiction is pretty awesome: zombies coming from beyond the grave to party!
2) Re: Your Brains by Jonathan Coulton
This song introduces zombies to the office. Zombies are trying to convince a guy to come out of his office so they can eat his brains. But of course, they aren't unreasonable: no one's going to eat his eyes. The lyrics are hilarious and their pleading reminds of the badly misspelled letters from the zombies in Plants vs. Zombies trying to convince you to some out.
3) You're a Zombie Now by Sam Hart
It's sad when a relationship ends because one person turns into a zombie. :(

Zombie Music: Aaron Stoquert
The subject matter is more serious and articulates the feelings and thoughts that zombies have but aren't able to express. This is a level of zombie emotion that isn't explored very often. Beyond this EP, I would say Isaac Marion's Warm Bodies is the only other work that comes to mind that does this really well. This EP is available on his Bandcamp and you can either name your price or download it for free. I would recommend donating some money because I would love to hear a full length album from Aaron whether it's about zombies or not.

Zombie Songs: Laura Shigihara
You may not recognize Laura Shigihara's name, but you have probably heard of the game she composed the score for: Plants vs. Zombies. It's a super fun tower defense game that's also super cute. You plant different types plants in your yard to battle against the zombies, preventing them from going into your house and eating your brains. If you haven't played it yet, you need to. It's available for the Android, iPhone/iPod, X-Box 360, PC, Mac, Nintendo DS, and even in the game World of Warcraft (except it's called Peaceblooms vs. Ghouls). It has exploded so much since I first started playing it 2 years ago that it's shocking. This game is incredibly addicting, so be prepared to be completely absorbed by the game.
I have spent many hours playing this game and thoroughly enjoying the musical score. The tracks range from peaceful and slow (Zen Garden) to frenzied and energetic (Brainiac Maniac). The atmosphere for this game is perfectly realized in the musical score: quirky, cute, addicting, and, above all, fun. The J-pop influenced theme song, Zombies on Your Lawn, is clever, catchy, and adorable and it always brings a smile to face. Apparently the game soundtrack has been available for download for almost a year, which I did not know. (The theme song in English and Japanese has been available for free since the game released.) Now the rest of the soundtrack is available on Laura's Bandcamp for only $3.99 or you can just enjoy the soundtrack streaming on the website or right here.
I randomly found Laura's Youtube account, where she plays some of her Plants vs. Zombies compositions on the piano, as well as covers of other video game songs, like Still Alive from Portal, and original songs. Here are my 2 favorite PvZ videos:
Laura Shigihara is a talented pianist and composer and I can't wait to see more from her in her upcoming game, Melolune.

Kirby Krackle's Zombie Apocalypse
I posted about my love of the song Zombie Apocalypse by nerd band Kirby Krackle during last years September Zombies. The song is about a guy who is really annoyed that the zombie apocalypse is ruining his enjoyment of life. He just wants to hang out with his friends, update his Twitter, and watch The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. It's my favorite song from their self titled debut album.Just today, they finally created a great animated video for it. My favorite part is the zombie Twitter whale. :) Anyway, feast your eyes on their video filled with awesomeness and zombies!
